Save Guwahati's Only Professional Skatepark

Save Guwahati's Only Professional Skatepark
The Issue
For the past three years, I have poured my heart into skateboarding, not only honing my skills but also nurturing the young talents in Guwahati. The skatepark at the Northeast Frontier Railway Stadium in Maligaon, Guwahati, Assam, has been instrumental in building this vibrant community. Hosting events and competitions, the park has been a second home and a beacon for skaters throughout the Northeast region.
However, we now face a dire situation. The very foundation of our skating community, the only professional skatepark in Guwahati and the entire Northeast region, is under threat of being destroyed. This skatepark is not just concrete and ramps; it's a haven for enthusiasts and a vital space for the youth, providing them an opportunity to learn, grow, and express themselves through skateboarding.
Eliminating this facility would not only erase years of irreplaceable memories and hard work but also shatter the dreams and aspirations of many young skaters who look up to it as a sanctuary for creativity and sport.
According to Urban Sports Coalition, skateboarding can reduce youth crime by providing a healthy outlet, and this skatepark has been a vital part of our community's development. In a city with limited recreational infrastructure tailored for our youth, this park stands as a critical resource for physical activity and social engagement.
We urge the authorities to reconsider this decision. Instead of destroying a cherished community landmark, let's explore how we can preserve and possibly enhance this facility. Consider partnerships with local businesses, sponsorships, and community-driven fundraising activities that can keep this skatepark alive for future generations.
Please join us in this effort to save the Guwahati skatepark, a cornerstone of our community and the heartbeat of youth culture in the region. Sign this petition and help us take action to protect our skateboarding community's future.
