Save Greenburgh Nature Center: Urge the Town to Renew Contract

The Issue

For nearly 50 years, the Greenburgh Nature Center has thrived as a private, educational nonprofit in collaboration with the Town of Greenburgh, which owns the property. Under our agreement, we manage, operate, and largely fund (81%) the 33-acre nature preserve, animal exhibits and educational center, benefiting both the community and visitors. Everything you see and experience at the Nature Center is made possible by the nonprofit.
However, the Nature Center's future is now in jeopardy because the Town of Greenburgh has not renewed its 25-year contract with the nonprofit. Despite our efforts over the past 2 years, the Town’s refusal to renew the contract is already causing significant issues, including:

  • Suspension of long-term grant applications extending beyond 2026.
  • Major donor contributions being placed on hold.
  • Hiring and retaining valued employees at risk.
  • Delays in large self-funded projects.
  • Uncertainty regarding the Nature Center’s legal status beyond 2026.

These challenges pose a serious threat to the Nature Center’s long-term viability.

You Can Help!

  • Sign this petition urging the Town of Greenburgh Board to take immediate action and renew its 25-year contract with the Nature Center.
  • Email the Town Board at TownBoard@greenburghny.com
  • Share this petition with your network.

Your support can help ensure that Greenburgh Nature Center continues to flourish for years to come, well beyond 2050.

Thank You!
