Save Goldfields TVET College , Meloding Satellite
The Issue
Petition to Prevent the Closure of Meloding Satellite
We, the undersigned students, faculty,SRC , and community members of Goldfields TVET College , urge the administration to reconsider the decision to close Meloding Satellite. The reasons provided for the closure are unclear and do not seem to fully consider the impact on students, faculty, and the broader community. Furthermore, this decision was made without adequate input from those most affected and was communicated only when it was nearly too late to respond.
Reasons for Opposition:
1. Lack of Student and Community Involvement in Decision-Making
Closing a campus is a significant decision that deeply affects students’ educational paths, financial situations, and daily lives. However, students, faculty, and community members were not given an opportunity to share feedback, propose alternatives, or even voice their concerns. This lack of transparency does not align with the values of an institution that prides itself on serving its student body and community.
2. Insufficient and Delayed Notification
Most students only received notification about the closure shortly before it was set to happen, leaving them with little time to make necessary arrangements or explore alternatives. Such short notice creates unnecessary hardship, especially for students who have invested significant time and resources in this location.
3. Impact on Access to Education and Student Success
For many students, this campus provides a convenient and affordable option for pursuing higher education. The closure will force students to commute longer distances, which not only adds to their financial burden but also impacts their time management, potentially harming their academic success.
4. Lack of Clear, Justified Reasons for Closure
The provided reasons for closing the campus do not seem fully justifiable or in the best interest of the student body. Without a clear explanation, we cannot understand how this decision aligns with the university’s mission or how it serves the best interests of those it impacts the most.
