Thank you for taking the time to read yesterday's important note, and a special thank you to those of you who have already contacted City Council and Mayor Gaskins.
The sign-up form for speaking at City Council on Saturday just went live today. This is probably the most impactful act you can take, so please sign up and speak to the city on behalf of our park and trees on Saturday if you are able to do so.
I understand that if you follow the "contact City Council and Mayor Gaskins" links on a mobile phone browser, it takes you to an Alexandria landing page, rather than directly to the form to contact City Council. To navigate to the correct form, please click "Request", "City Government, Libraries, & Courts", "Contact Mayor, Vice Mayor and/or City Council."
I received some inquiries regarding where to find the data about the number of trees planned for destruction. Please take a close look at the map on page 58 of the DSUP #2025-10001 Staff Report, along with the tables on pages 59, 60, and 62. These pages provide tree-by-tree insight into the level of destruction planned for the park and surrounding pathways. Each X marked on the map (also in the image of this email) is a tree that is planned for destruction.
Also, please do NOT contribute money to this petition. Any money you contribute via change.org goes directly to them and not to anything having to do with George Mason Park.
Again, PLEASE WRITE CITY COUNCIL & MAYOR GASKINS NOW if you want to preserve any part of our park.
Thank you again for taking the time to read this email!
