The Geelong West Library has been earmarked for closure by September 2023.

The Geelong Regional Libraries Corporation (GRLC) 2023/2024 draft budget says that a funding contribution from the City of Greater Geelong Council to cover the additional running costs of the new Drysdale and Armstrong Creek Libraries has not been forthcoming. According to GRLC, this has necessitated a major change to the service levels across all City of Greater Geelong libraries to offset this reduced income, which includes existing library closures. The Council says it doesn't support library closures, but this doesn't seem to be enough at this stage to prevent the GRLC plans for Geelong West Library's closure. 

The Geelong West library is a well-used and beautiful gathering place in the heart of Pakington Street. There are critical new baby and mother programs, story times for children and places for tutoring, studying and sharing community news.

Our Geelong West Library is a precious resource - a place to learn, meet and play. It holds particular value for children, students and the elderly, who, without a local library, lose a special place which is safe, free to join and inclusive.
