Save FVHS Theatre!

Save FVHS Theatre!
The Issue
Throughout my entire high school career at Fountain Valley High School (FVHS), I've been deeply involved in the theatre program. This program has been more than just a series of classes or extracurricular activities for me—it's been a transformative experience. I have won numerous awards and found a supportive community that feels like family. As I am graduating, I'm heartbroken to hear that the district has decided to cut both our 4th and 7th period theatre classes, eliminating essential performance opportunities for students.
These cuts are not just affecting the curriculum, they are cutting into the very soul of our school. Theatre at FVHS has not only been a space for artistic expression but a crucial safe haven for countless students. Unlike any other space within the school, it provides a nurturing environment where creativity thrives, students find their voices, and a unique sense of belonging is cultivated.
The value of theatre programs extends beyond individual achievements; they instill important life skills such as teamwork, collaboration, and confidence, which are invaluable in any field. Eliminating these opportunities will deprive students of these vital experiences. Other schools within Orange County continue to support the arts, recognizing their importance in shaping well-rounded students and future community leaders.
We understand that due to low enrollment and issues outside of our control as students, these classes and the theatre program overall are being cut. However, there are still many students currently at FVHS, and incoming students as well, who benefit from the theatre program. Cutting the program will also have the potential of turning away new students from attending FVHS, worsening the low enrollment rate.
Please stand with us in showing the district that sustaining the theatre department is essential for the well-being of our students and community. Sign this petition to urge HBUHSD to reconsider their decision and work with us to find a solution that ensures the theatre program at FVHS continues for years to come.
