Save Friday the Cat!!!

Save Friday the Cat!!!
The Issue
Meet Friday the cat.
He was born and raised at the Hilton Head Island Airport. Over the past few years, he has won over the hearts of the Airport Staff, Passengers and Community. It’s this community that has fed him in his “home” – a feral cat community next to the airport grounds, for almost a decade. His father and mother were both from this same colony and his brother is still here as well. Best guesses are that Friday is about 9 or 10 years old.
This community has never been an issue for the last few decades but recently, the Airports Director, Jon Rembold has brought before the Beaufort County Council a recommendation that the Council adopt a “Hilton Head Island Airport Wildlife Management Policy” which seeks to remove all wildlife from the property.
This resolution has been denied until January when Mr. Rembold is to come back before the council with an outline of the plan and details on implementing it.
It would appear that Friday and the other feral cats in this community that have lived their whole lives on the grounds are being targeted. According to sources that live near or work at the airport, these cats have never been seen on the runway or near any plane and the remainder of the community (except Friday) stay hidden in the wooded areas nearby the airport.
Please help us to protect Friday and the others in this long-standing cat community and tell the airport and the Beaufort County Council there is no need for this ordinance. Furthermore - NO HARM is to come of any cat in this community regardless of the outcome.
The ecosystem plays an important part in all parts of life on Hilton Head Island – and these working cats are a vital part – playing their role to keep life here happy.
Please show your support for Friday and his community by adding your name to the petition below.
Thank you!
