Let them hear you Sherrelwood! Public Comment due tomorrow, August 4!
Thank you to everyone who came out for the FIRST Bowie Ct Block Party, celebrating the historic Franklin Reservoir and the community that surrounds it. It was really inspiring how many people came out to see and discuss the 7 acres we hope to protect for the benefit of the existing residents.
What do we do now?
If you haven't already, we'd love if you would share your comments with the county. Public comments related to the proposed development are due tomorrow, August 4! Whether you want to send one sentence, a poem, or a full-fledged report with citations, let Adams County know you care!

Your comment is your own. That said, several people have asked for details to better understand some of the concerns of our current community group. Below are some details you may choose to use or inspire you!
Our asks of the county are:
- Deny the rezoning and subdivision application for Maiker Sherrelwood
- Halt any further rezoning or development until we establish a long term neighborhood plan for Sherrelwood
- Ask Adams County to apply its adopted plans consistently and as a whole
- Use this decision as an opportunity to make a responsible, equitable investment in Sherrelwood rather than deepen its longstanding deficits.
Why is this important now?:
- Our community has existing issues and unique needs
- We are overburdened by highway traffic, noise, air pollution, proximity to industry
- We lack access to critical services, safe sidewalks, bike lanes, community spaces, and natural parks
- We have limited meaningful space left to address those needs
- Adding more density before services, resources, and amenities for existing residents is inequitable
- This is a permanent land use decision, once the green space is developed, we can never get that back
It's not too late!:
We still have a chance! Many people we talk to express they feel the decision has been made and there's nothing left we can do. I understand that feeling and have felt it many times myself. The truth is, we cannot predict what will come of this effort, but we are early enough in the process we can make a meaningful difference. What I do know is, if we don't try, we will certainly forfeit any input or influence we have as a community over what will directly impact our future. I encourage you to choose to try!
