Save Fox road playpark

Save Fox road playpark

The Issue

Fox road playpark has had it's slide removed and it's greenspace fenced off by Bristol City Council's parks department, with no warning or consultation. The roundabout was removed some years ago. Now the council is saying that they aim to remove the swings as well. They have no plans to replace any of this equipment

Bristol City Council are using funds earmarked for the people of Bristol to remove assets owned by the people of Bristol. This is a playpark, for children, it deserves to be protected, not torn down.

The swings are structurally sound, they predate the European guidelines for playparks adopted in 1999 so are exempt from any of the specifications of these guidelines. (BCC has tried to claim that they don't conform to the guidelines despite providing no specifics of how they fail to conform) They'd appreciate a lick of paint and the seats are a bit worn from many years of happy swinging but they should not be condemned.

A spokesperson for the parks department stated that there was "very little space to install any new equipment". Please see the photo above for a clue as to why that may be the case....

This petition has been created as a supplement to the paper petition created by residents that has gathered several hundred signatures.

Thank you for reading and signing. Unfortunately two men came on Friday 16th May at approx 9.30am (less than 15 hours after this petition was formed) and cut the swings down. There is now no play equipment left in Fox road playpark and the council is strongly opposed to reinstating any.

Where we go from here is unsure but further signatures are very welcome, this is a real travesty and alot of people are sad and upset.
