Save Firefox from the Google antitrust dispute
Das Problem
Firefox is in danger of becoming a victim of the current efforts of the US Department of Justice to restrict Google's market power. Although the aim of curbing power is perfectly legitimate, this has a serious disadvantage for Firefox, which could mean that, in the worst case scenario, Firefox can no longer be developed further.
Among other things, the regulations stipulate that Google may no longer pay other companies to use Google as their default search engine. This is basically good and understandable, so that Google does not have an unfair advantage over other search engines. However, the problem is that Firefox is dependent on the money that Google pays to Mozilla, as this largely finances its development.
Stopping these payments could mean the end for Firefox. This is a problem for the following reason:
Firefox is the only browser apart from Google Chrome that still relies on its own technologies and thus limits Google's control over the Internet and web standards. Although there are other browsers, they are all based on the same technology as Chrome (-> Chromium) and are therefore technically on the same level.
If Firefox falls, there will no longer be any competition to Chrome. This would give Google full control over the internet and allow it to determine which standards are implemented. This also gives Google the power to shape the internet according to its wishes and adapt it so that it works best for Google. This may make it easier to exclude new competitors, preventing them from growing and ensuring that people only use Chrome because nothing else works.
In this way, Google can also jeopardize data protection, because they can enforce standards that make it easier to collect data from Internet users.
Dear US Department of Justice: The aim is not to completely oppose Google's market power being restricted. This is an important goal and should be pursued further. I would simply like to remind you that you should also consider the possible consequences of this and that you should take care not to achieve the opposite of what you actually want and thus endanger Google's competition. Please bear this in mind when making your decisions and let the competition continue to exist, otherwise you might create the very monopoly that you actually want to prevent with your decision.
Please let's save Firefox and sign this petition to bring this issue to the attention of the US Department of Justice. For the freedom and independence of the Internet. Otherwise, we run the risk of getting exactly the same situation as Microsoft did with Internet Explorer.
