Hi folks, 3 things you can do in the upcoming weeks to stop Egan from being moved:
(1) Get educated: Please read about the LASD-BCS history, scenarios considered in the past and the community engagement process here: https://www.lasdschools.org/District/10745-Community-Engagement-on-Facilities.html.
If you have questions, please attend your PTA meeting to hear about the process and ask questions about next steps with an LASD Board member. (Please be respectful that this is a regular PTA meeting, and they will conduct other PTA business in addition to this agenda item.)

- Gardner Bullis - September 20, 2019 at 9:00 AM
- Almond - September 25, 2019 at 8:30 AM
(2) Attend charrette and workshop: Most importantly, please participate in at least one charrette and one workshop. The charrettes will be meetings that will generate and review ideas for options, and the workshop is when we will narrow into top option(s)--ultimately to present to the LASD Board. To read more, see LASD site: https://www.lasdschools.org/District/10745-Community-Engagement-on-Facilities.html.
Charrettes -- Generate ideas on options. (You only need to attend one charrette but can attend both.)
- Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 6:30-8:30pm, Blach Multi-Purpose Room
- Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 9:30-11:30am, Egan Multi-Purpose Room
Workshops -- Select top idea(s) as feedback to Board. (You only need to attend one workshop but can attend both.)
- Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 9:30-11:30am, Blach Multi-Purpose Room
- Monday, November 4, 2019 at 6:30-8:30pm, Egan Multi-Purpose Room
(3) Write to the Board and remind them you don't want Egan moved: Please write to the LASD Board, staff and consultants (trustees@lasdschools.org, JBaier@lasdschools.org, communityengagement@lasdschools.org) again.
Ask them not to move Egan and, instead, land on a deal with these core values:
- No neighborhood school moved/closed: We do not accept a choice between closing Egan and targeting another school for closure. The LASD community believes in the neighborhood school model, and we don’t want to close any school solely to benefit BCS.
- Equal burden, equal benefit: Reasonable and fair accommodations apply to LASD and not just BCS. LASD students need to be treated fairly and equitably in any deal.
- Sharing can be successful: A single site for BCS doesn’t make sense. Just as LASD students are split by grade at different sites, BCS should also follow the same system. LASD and BCS families I’ve spoken to are okay with sharing, and the Boards should be too.
