Dickinson State University President Stephen Easton has released a proposal to reorganize DSU's academic structure and eliminate numerous academic programs. Among the programs in danger of elimination are Theater and Music.

For decades, the DSU Arts & Letters Department (formerly Fine and Performing Arts) has provided entertainment and cultural opportunities for the people of southwest North Dakota. Art is a reflection of society and culture. It allows for expression of creativity and emotions, self-reflection, and social influence. The arts serve as an important tool for learning, teaching, and communicating. Not only would these proposed changes take away educational opportunities from North Dakotans, they would be a detriment to the entire community.
