The Secretary of State for Housing, Robert Jenrick MP, has called in for his own decision Westbrook's appeal against Westminster city council's refusal of planning permission for their development plans.

This means that the public inquiry due to start on 12th May for 6-7 days will go ahead as planned but the Planning Inspector will prepare a report and recommendation for the minister.

The target date for the Inspector to submit his report, according to the Planning Inspectorate, is 18th of August 2020.

It is usual in such cases for the Inspector to make a more detailed and considered report than would be the case in making a normal judgment and this usually takes a longer period of time.

The decision of the Secretary of State does reflect the importance given to the public interest issues affecting the Dolphin Square development by the Government and the concerns expressed by local residents.

In announcing the decision, the Planning Inspectorate stated:

"The reason for this direction is that the appeal involves proposals for residential development of over 150 units or on sites of over 5 hectares, which would significantly impact on the Government's objective to secure a better balance between housing demand and supply and create high quality, sustainable, mixed and inclusive communities."

Objectors have made it clear that Westbrook's plans do not create a "high quality, sustainable, mixed and inclusive" community but destroy an existing community in pursuit of their hotel expansion plans and profit objectives.
