Please sign this petition and let the Coppell ISD School Board know that if DLI is moved from Wilson, my family is considering switching to monolingual learning.

Here is why:

This month, the CISD School Board is considering options to help with its budget deficit, including closing schools effective Fall of 2025. The full presentation from the school board meeting on September 9th is available online at https://5il.co/2wal6  

We want to be very clear about the huge impact to Wilson Elementary that is under consideration:

• There are two elementary schools being considered for closure and they are Pinkerton Elementary and Austin Elementary.  
• Under EITHER of these options, the district would ALSO move the DLI program from Wilson entirely to Denton Creek Elementary.  
• Moving the DLI program is also a stand-alone option that the Board may decide to do even if they do not close any schools.

The Board believes that moving the program frees up room at Wilson for other displaced school communities to go to Wilson and continue their programming there.  For example, 75% of Pinkerton is required to remain together, including the IB trained teachers and principals, in order for the IB program to be moved. However If DLI families switch to monolingual and indicate they would not move and free up that space, the Board may check their assumptions and reconsider whether these options are truly feasible for our city.

We support all CISD programs but forcefully uprooting the DLI program from Wilson, destroys everything our Wilson community has built and ensures significant staffing changes and job losses for our Wilson educators across ALL roles.

We will be the families who bear the brunt of the changes and who will have to navigate multiple different impacts.  We will be the ones busing our kids, trying to navigate a completely different DLI system, deciding what to do if we are a family with both DLI and monolingual learners, having no option to stay at Wilson because our zoning on was based on DLI or staying at our school that is completely different with different staff and leaders.

This petition is for our voices to be heard as a Wilson community. Signing this petition shows the Board that our Wilson families are proud of our school as it exists right now and we are speaking up because our community is so heavily affected in every single option consideration.  It will ensure that they know that we believe that Wilson - as it is now - is the best environment for our kids to learn AND thrive.

These are the upcoming dates and next steps in this process where you can make sure your voice is heard.  We plan to share this number of signatures on this petition to the board as a way of sharing our community’s voice.

Esta es la razón:

Queremos ser muy claros sobre el gran impacto que se está considerando para la escuela primaria de Wilson:

Se está considerando el cierre de dos escuelas primarias, Pinkerton y Austin.

Bajo CUALQUIERA de estas opciones, el distrito TAMBIÉN trasladaría el programa DLI de Wilson por completo a la escuela primaria Denton Creek.

Trasladar el programa DLI también es una opción independiente que la Junta puede decidir hacer incluso si no cierran ninguna escuela.

La Junta cree que mover el programa DLI liberará espacio en Wilson para que otras comunidades escolares de escuelas cerradas vayan a Wilson y continúen su programa de aprendizaje allí. Por ejemplo, se requiere que el 75% de Pinkerton permanezca unido, incluyendo maestros y directores capacitados en el programa IB, para que se pueda trasladar el programa IB a Wilson. Sin embargo, si las familias de DLI en Wilson cambian al programa monolingüe e indican que no se moverán automáticamente a Denton Creek, ese espacio con el que la junta cuenta que nuestros niños liberen, no será posible. La junta debe verificar sus suposiciones y reconsiderar si estas opciones son realmente factibles para nuestra ciudad.

Apoyamos todos los programas de CISD, pero mover por la fuerza el programa DLI de Wilson, destruye todo lo que nuestra comunidad de Wilson ha construido. Esto también garantiza cambios significativos en el personal y pérdidas de empleos para nuestros educadores de Wilson en TODOS los roles.

Nuestra comunidad de Wilson sufrirá lo peor de los cambios y tendremos que afrontar múltiples consecuencias. Tendremos que transportar a nuestros hijos en autobús, navegar un sistema DLI completamente diferente, y decidir qué hacer si somos una familia con estudiantes DLI y monolingües, sin la opción de quedarnos en Wilson porque nuestra zonificación se basó en DLI o quedarnos en nuestra escuela que será completamente diferente con personal y líderes diferentes.

Esta petición es para que se escuchen nuestras voces como comunidad de Wilson. Firmar esta petición demuestra a la Junta que nuestras familias de Wilson están orgullosas de nuestra escuela tal como existe en este momento y que estamos dejando escuchar nuestra voz porque nuestra comunidad se ve muy afectada en cada una de las opciones consideradas. Esto garantizará que sepan que creemos que Wilson, tal como es ahora, es el mejor entorno para que nuestros niños aprendan Y prosperen.

Estas son las próximas fechas y los próximos pasos en este proceso en los que puede asegurarse de que su voz sea escuchada. Planeamos compartir la cantidad de firmas en esta petición con la junta como una forma de compartir la voz de nuestra comunidad.
