Save Disney’s animation studios by relaunching Blue Sky

The Issue

Hey Bob Iger,

This is just something personal. But first, I do want to send my deepest condolences to you and everyone at Disney on your humiliating defeat at the box office for 2023. It also hasn’t been as much of a rough year for me as 2020 was, but 2023 was still a letdown for me. I’m also starting to find out why. Like every Blue Sky fan, I was so pissed off at the decision that was made by your predecessor (Bob Chapek) to close Blue Sky Studios. Not only did everyone who worked there lose their jobs as a result, but it was also a contributing factor to all your animated films (only the ones that have been released since then) underperforming at the box office. Notable examples of this trend include “Strange World” and “Wish” from the main animation studio as well as “Lightyear” from Pixar.

No offense, but when you bought Blue Sky as part of your acquisition of 20th Century Fox back in 2019, you were supposed to use it to your advantage in terms of East Coast animation studios. Unfortunately, its closure in 2021 is evidence that you didn’t. Not only that, but given your animation box office track record since then, if you don’t relaunch Blue Sky Studios, then your upcoming animated films will suffer the same fate (at least at the box office).

That is why I am writing this petition. Relaunching Blue Sky will not only end the culture clash (as well as bring every Blue Sky employee back to the studio that they once worked at), but it will also give all of your animation studios a desperately-needed box office rescue. I hope this petition I’m writing catches your attention. As a longtime fan of 20th Century Fox (who owns Blue Sky Studios), I am also desperate for another “Ice Age” film to be released in movie theaters instead of going straight to Disney+. Another reason why is that an “Ice Age” character named Scrat is the official mascot of 20th Century Fox. That is why I am taking immediate action now. I hope you and everyone else at Disney comes to your senses and saves the animation studios as a result of this decision.

UPDATE: This petition now has over 100 supporters at the time of writing. Because of this, there are also other people out there that still believe in saving the future of the "Ice Age" franchise. It proves that the customer is always right. With that in mind, I still hope that relaunching Blue Sky Studios will get all of your animation studios back on track at the box office. Thank you for your time Mr. Iger, and if you do respond, I highly appreciate your feedback.
