We demand that Devon County Council acts to secure sufficient funding for Community Hospitals in Devon that no Community Hospital beds or services have to be closed or otherwise cut.
The Issue
We believe patients have the right to be treated in their community hospital where they can receive good quality care while being close to friends and family so that they enjoy the company of people they know. Small hospitals provide a more relaxed and caring setting for recovery than large district hospitals or care at home which is unreliable and remote.
We believe that it is only because of financial pressure that these cuts are being made and it is the role of the Clinical Commissioning Groups, Healthcare Trusts and Devon County Council to secure the funding the NHS needs to treat patients adequately and retain Community Hospitals.
