Save Deus the American Staffordshire Terrier
The issue
If you would be so kind to donate to the cause, I have created a go fund me that will assist with the legal fees. Please donate to the go fund me link as I can't access the change.org contributions, they keep it for promotional purposes.
Our hearts are heavy as we face an imminent crisis that deeply affects our family, and especially our one year and nine-month-old pure American Staffordshire Terrier, Deus. Those of you in our local community may have seen him around Port Douglas, his wide grin lighting up the streets. Deus entered our lives as a puppy, diagnosed with limited sound and sight, and rescued at 12 weeks old when his previous family couldn't meet the demands of training a dog with disabilities. Despite the challenges, Deus has become an integral part of our family, bringing joy and love into our home.
The Douglas Shire Council has issued not one, but three destruction orders against Deus. The first two were the result of his wanderings, driven by separation anxiety and a loving nature that seeks human companionship while I'm at work. We've successfully resolved this issue in the past, but now the council has escalated their actions. They've declared Deus a regulated dangerous dog due to a wrongful accusation involving a known aggressive Samoyed in our neighborhood. This declaration means that unless we comply with costly enclosure requirements, Deus faces euthanasia by September 22. This situation puts Deus's life on the line and challenges our ability to provide him with the life he deserves.
The time to act is now! Our beloved Deus has spent the past three weeks confined to a cage at the council pound. He has a loving home, a warm bed, and a family that adores him. It's incomprehensible that the council would consider destroying a non-dangerous pet who has overcome significant odds with a disability. Discrimination is evident as they disregard the overwhelming evidence of Deus's gentle nature. In a country where over 400,000 pets face homelessness or impoundment every year, we cannot allow this injustice to continue. We implore you to join us in this urgent fight to save our dear boy by signing this petition to remove the dangerous dog declaration and destruction order.
