Our local Sports Centre Deighton Sports Arena will be closed on 16th December 2022 and the decision to review whether it will reopen will be made in March 2023. This community space has been a keystone in the local community for decades, with numerous clubs, events and facilities enjoyed by the people of Deighton and beyond.

The purpose of this petition is to provide a clear message to the decision makers within Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) and Kirklees Council, that the people of Deighton don't want their Sports Centre closed and will not lay down and be walked on anymore. 

Deighton Sports centre is the heart of the Ashbrow ward, its home to many and has a positive and respected reputation in the area. People up and down the country have heard of this Sports centre.

After the recent death, stabbings, and crime amongst our young people in the area there is a need more than ever to provide a safe space, recreational space, and a positive pathway for our youths is vital. The sudden closure puts our young people at an even greater risk and takes away one of the last venues in the area for them.

Together we can fight the closure and keep this cherished place open for future generations to use, make memories and continue the legacy that has been created.
