Du30 Veto Now: Save Davao's 10% Green Spaces

Du30 Veto Now: Save Davao's 10% Green Spaces
The Issue
Just a week after "accepting" the Mayor's veto, the City Council has AGAIN allowed the filing of the SAME proposed amendment to remove the 10% more green space, LESS the technicalities cited in the veto.
Is this City Council listening AT ALL?
"Incorporating" the 10% to 30% open space is tantamount to REMOVAL.
Green space is not just setback greenery or a backyard tree. It is urban green space designed for carbon sequestration, mitigating urban heat island effect, enabling groundwater recharge, supporting biodiversity AMONG OTHER health benefits for the community and the region.
Urban green space is not some "clean and green" project, it is climate change response. It is not just beautification, it is CLIMATE CHANGE PROTECTION. Not just a matter of lifestyle, but a matter of life and survival. Not just for the rich, but most especially for the poor.
We have breached the 10,000 mark and we are now at 13,000 plus. But apparently these are not enough...
Please continue the signature campaign and comment, and we will make sure to read each and every statement in the promised public consultation. We are not certain where this "public consultation" will lead us to..
SIGN and be HEARD. Sign and let your community sign until your representative LISTENS to your voice.
To our dear City Councilors given the DUTY and PRIVILEGE to represent US and OUR INTERESTS:
WE are the PEOPLE of DAVAO. Do not DEPRIVE us of OUR GREEN SPACES. These are for us and FOR our CHILDREN!
RESPECT the Zoning Ordinance in the CLUP 2013-2022!
Mayor Digong, please make your City Council listen ...if not to us THEIR CONSTITUENTS, then to you as their Mayor.
Save Davao Green Spaces!
===============================
The City Council of Davao, with NO PUBLIC CONSULTATION, removed the 10% green space requirement in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (2013-2022) last January 26, Tuesday on their 3rd reading.
They deferred the 2nd reading FIVE (5) times before passing the amendment on 2nd reading on January 19. We learned about this ONLY through media and ONLY after the January 19 session.
Other agencies such as the CPDO and CENRO were also not consulted.
The requests of the developers were:
1. For the 10% green space to be incorporated in the 30% open space required by national law. But "open space" refers to roads, drainage, worship areas, and health centers in addition to recreational areas. Most of these are gray/built-up spaces. GREEN is not GRAY.
2. That developers be allowed to plant off-site in another property of theirs.
3. As another option, that developers donate instead to the deforestation programs of national and or local agencies.
The City Council, except for Councilor Mabel Acosta, said Yes to the green space being removed and the 30% open space to suffice for green space, virtually dooming Davao City into a future Manila.
They say they are our District representatives, but they have been voicing the concerns of developers who feel that 10% is a waste of space for their profits.
Here in Davao we say, "life is here." and Dabawenyos deserve better.
We deserve BETTER LEADERShip, we deserve BETTER LIVES for our children.
Help us save the green space for Davao, and help Davao children breathe cleaner air be safe in homes free from floods play in natural (and not cement) parks be healthy and "climate change-proof" be happy living in an urban-yet-green environment
This is not just for the environment, this is for
our common good and common future.
