On a recent trip to Manhattan, we saw many trucks with sideguards to protect the population of pedestrians and cyclists. How embarassing to find that the Canadian government is failing their citizens by not making sideguards mandatory here.

November 7th will mark one year since Jenna Morrison, a 38 year old mother was killed when a truck clipped her bicycle and she fell under the wheels. Instead of nursing her would be 4 month old baby and enjoying summer with her 6 year old, she is gone.

Sideguards prevent pedestrians and cyclists from falling under the tires of trucks by bouncing them away from the truck instead of under.

My husband Ulrich Hartmann might still be alive if trucks had these sideguards. Ulrich was hit by a cement truck on September 11, 2006. This amazing man was taken from me and our two young children.

Sideguards will save lives.They are mandatory by law in the UK and some European countries already. Please sign this petition and ask your friends and contacts to do the same. The Honourable Denis Lebel (denis.lebel@parl.gc.ca) is the Minister.
