On 26 May 2023, Coquun announced Maitland City Council decided to not extend their lease beyond 1st of August, 2023. 

Coquun has been a fixture of Maitland and the Levee located in the Riverlink building since 2018. They are a small business and part of the Maitland community and uniquely providing the community with a Café, Bar, Deli, Bistro and live music. 

Coquun is a meeting place, it has created a vibrancy where like minded, creative people within our small community come together to enjoy their offerings. 

COVID played havoc on small businesses who were unable to trade due to lock down restrictions but still needed to make ends meet. Because of COVID this put immense pressure on Coquun who had a small debt to council which they were steadily paying off. Never for one moment did they think this would compromised their position and lease renewal at the Levee. 

Maitland Council have advised they want to replace Coquun with a fast food eatery like Dominos Pizza. We cannot let this happen!

Coquun are now unexpectedly searching for a new place to plant their roots, they need support, a venue, investment and the community to rally around them!

Over the coming months Coquun depend on the support of Maitland more than ever.
