Our NSW community cats are STILL AT RISK!!! This threatens the world leading initiatives by the NSW government and will constrain improvements in other Australian states & territories.
UPDATE 11/11/2025: The NSW government has backed the parliament Inquiry Management of Cat Populations enabling progressive funded desexing programs (including community cats in hotspots) and holistic human behaviour change programs to increase cat containment in a positive and proactive way, already proven by RSPCA NSW across many councils.
HOWEVER, the Greens NSW party is challenging this with a Control Cats bill - being marketed for mandatory cat containment BUT it implies a mass cull for ALL roaming unchipped cats!!! This bill implies stopping rescue, desexing, and rehoming community cats, to funnel all roaming cats into already overloaded council pound systems or worse as during the Inquiry the Greens representative suggested alternatives to vet humane euthanasia.

The Greens NSW campaign for the bill has been found to be misleading in many ways. Afterall, if mandatory containment was working in other states and the ACT then surely the estimated impacts to wildlife would be reducing dramatically in those states? BUT as raised by a number of animal welfare organisations, no council in Australia has provided proof of success AND similar reductions in impacts are available with proactive methods of encouraging cat containment.
PLEASE HELP once more, we desperately need more signatures until the Greens NSW bill fails to gain support in parliament.
Many thanks for your help, from the Save Community Cats team xxx
