I am writing to provide you with an update on Mark's current situation and to request your continued support in advocating for his much-needed care.
As many of you know, Mark is currently being held at the East Orange, VA psychiatric unit. Unfortunately, his referral to attend Warrior Heart or any other military inpatient facility has been denied. While we were prepared for this outcome, we had hoped that the authorities would make the right decision and allow Mark to receive the care he so desperately needs.
In light of this development, I have reached out to our senators as well as our congressman to bring attention to Mark's case. It is disheartening to note that we were once celebrated as District Five's "hometown heroes" four years ago by Congressman Gottheimer and now find ourselves struggling to access the care Mark urgently requires.
Mark remains confined to a wheelchair in the psychiatric unit. Yesterday, on our 14th wedding anniversary, I was fortunate enough to spend 20 precious minutes with him. Despite his sadness and defeat, he continues to hold onto hope, knowing that there are people who care about his well-being.
I urge all of you to continue sharing and signing the petition that aims to ensure Mark receives the care he deserves. We have identified two rehabilitation facilities that can accommodate Mark immediately upon the referral's approval. It is imperative that we keep up the pressure, as there is no reason for him to endure further suffering at the East Orange VA hospital.
Your support means everything to us and has the power to make a significant difference in Mark's life. We cannot express our gratitude enough for standing beside us during this challenging time. Together, we can ensure that Mark receives the care he so urgently needs and deserves.
