Save College Street Ravine Greenspace

The Issue

The College Street Ravine is under threat of development. This precious green space that provides sanctuary to diverse wildlife and offers a serene retreat for our community. This beautiful area is threatened. The owner of the land within the College Duwamish Head Greenspace is planning extensive development, aiming to construct between four and six new homes, a vehicle access road following the existing trail corridor, and to impose construction on environmentally sensitive steep slope critical areas.

The vast greenery not only contributes to the natural beauty of our neighborhood but supports ecological diversity that benefits both wildlife and residents. Development here could lead to irreversible damage to habitats, making the area less hospitable for the species that currently thrive and creating a significant loss for those of us who find solace in its natural splendor.

Such developments would disrupt the tranquil character of our community, increase traffic, and could cause soil erosion and possible landslides due to the steep slopes. Sensitive areas like these are crucial in maintaining the environmental balance and providing flood control.

It is imperative to consider environmentally responsible alternatives that preserve the essence of the greenspace while respecting the needs of development. We propose collaborating with environmental experts to identify less invasive alternatives that could allow partial development without threatening the ecological integrity of the ravine.

We urgently need your support to protect this invaluable green space for current and future generations. Sign this petition to urge local authorities and stakeholders to reassess development plans and adopt measures that prioritize the preservation of the College Street Ravine.
