Save City Hall Park

Save City Hall Park
The Issue
Vancouver's City Hall Campus long range plan - part of the Broadway Plan - will destroy City Hall Park unless we act now.
Even as Mayor Ken Sim talks about planting more trees across the city, the well-established canopy right outside his office door will be uprooted and paved over as part of the City Hall Campus portion of the Broadway Plan.
As of June/July 2024, all 3 of the proposed City Hall Campus open space concepts under review involve replacing this vital oasis at the heart of the city, with a largely paved public plaza to express "civic pride."
Please join us in telling the Mayor and all 10 City Councillors that:
- City Hall Park - including its lawn, grove of mature trees and benches, Community and Japanese Gardens - is absolutely perfect the way it exists today.
- As both human and wildlife residents of Vancouver grapple with hotter and drier summers, eliminating lush parkland is irresponsible, reckless, and the opposite of civic pride.
- Please REJECT ALL 3 of the current City Hall Campus Open Space concepts and instruct the architecture and planning team to focus instead on the redevelopment of Helena Gutteridge Plaza.
Additional background and analysis can be found in this City Hall Watch post.
