Please help us in saving our beloved community movie theatre, 
             Cineplex Cinemas Queensway, in Etobicoke! 

Cineplex Queensway has been an entertainment cornerstone for south Etobicoke's community - from couples on a date, teenager hangout, friend outings, young families, moms with their babies at Stars & Strollers and even senior groups.  But now, there's a proposal to tear it down for yet another major multi-tower condo complex with no indicators that the movie/entertainment options would be protected or rebuilt. Our city needs more than just condos, it needs spaces for entertainment, culture, and community-building.

They are proposing:

Cineplex ( Etobicoke ) will be flattened to the ground

In its place, will be built:

10 massive condo towers
4,222 residential units
Units reaching as high as 46 storeys
2,000 parking spaces

Cons:  

#1:  We will lose our Cineplex Theatre

#2: No plan to replace with similar entertainment options that remain affordable

#3: No support for infrastructure to accommodate additional density such as transportation, schools, and health options. 

#4: The proposed park is seemingly enclosed and does not provide Winter options.  It is yet mostly another "concrete jungle", right here in small Etobicoke. These 10 massive buildings, as well as the 4 to 5 new condo bldgs already being built on Queensway, between Islington & Royal York, equal density without proper support for the community and with boxes in the skey that are not built for families.

I am a resident of Toronto, a beautiful city in my opinion with much to offer. However, it feels like our city's entertainment options and spaces where people can connect and spend time are increasingly replaced in favour of residential high-rises.  The sad part is that these high-rises are not even designed for families, but for investors - so it's a lose, lose  situation. 

The purpose of this petition is not just to save Cineplex Cinemas Queensway ( Etobicoke ) but also to send a message to city leaders that Toronto needs to prioritize making our city more livable. They need to promote building activities that enhance the life quality of residents, rather than focusing exclusively on condos for investors.  This is important for a vibrant and dynamic city like ours.
