Pangolins, often referred to as 'scaly anteaters,' are the most trafficked mammal in the world. Despite international trade bans, their scales continue to be sold illegally, primarily in China. This petition seeks to end this illegal trade and strengthen legal action against those involved in illegal pangolin trafficking.

Pangolins play a crucial role in our ecosystem by controlling insect populations. However, their numbers are rapidly declining due to rampant poaching for their scales, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine despite no scientific evidence supporting their medicinal value.

In 2016, all eight species of pangolins were listed under Appendix I of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), effectively banning international commercial trade. Yet illegal trafficking continues especially in China due to weak enforcement. 

We urge the Chinese government to introduce stricter legislation with severe penalties for offenders involved in illegal pangolin trafficking. We must protect these unique creatures from extinction and preserve biodiversity for future generations.
