City vision must be climate deniers, otherwise they would not sanction the loss of hundreds of healthy trees; mature green assets both native ngahere and exotic, which are currently providing vital ecosystem services to the people of Auckland.
Phil Goff declared a “Climate Emergency” while supporting the felling of a significant part of the urban green canopy at Chamberlain Park. Chamberlain Park trees play a major role in atmospheric cooling, pollution mitigation, water retention, carbon dioxide intake and oxygen production. Replacing these trees with concrete car parks and tarmac for the artificial fields smacks of NO understanding of climate change contributors.
City Vision do not put any value on a mature tree. They state they can replace the ones they chop down at Chamberlain with “new ones”! We assume they don’t realise it takes 60 years to replace the ecosystem services being provided by a 60 year old tree. Auckland is already erroneously applying the idea of replanting as immediate mitigation. Re-planting is not immediate mitigation - it is a long term plan!
As far as we know no ecology studies, biodiversity studies or arboreal studies have so far been done for this project but City Vision continues to make confused sound bite statements regarding the ecology?
CITY VISION CANDIDATES need to be VOTED OUT
The Local Board elections will be this October. We want people to vote for the candidates that state they will stop Chamberlain Park's current redevelopment. We will let you know who they are and how they are voting.
