The Issue

Living in San Jose has been a blessing for my health and well-being, largely because of the wonderful facilities available to us. Cataldi Park, with its pickleball courts, has been a cornerstone for my physical exercise, mental health, and community involvement. It has not only helped me stay active but also provided an invaluable space to meet friends, share laughter, and build a supportive community of like-minded individuals. Knowing that this treasured local resource is at risk is disheartening and unacceptable.

But pickleball is more than just a sport; it’s a growing movement that promotes physical fitness and strengthens community bonds. According to the USA Pickleball Association, the sport is one of the fastest-growing in the country, with over 4.2 million players nationwide. Cataldi Park is one of the precious venues that host this sport for all age groups, fostering a healthy, active lifestyle for many residents in San Jose.

Moreover, Cataldi Park's pickleball courts contribute significantly to our local economy. Every week, players purchase gear, grab post-match meals, and otherwise support nearby businesses. Sacramento's Department of Parks and Recreation has shown that well-maintained parks increase property values by up to 20% in local neighborhoods, a financial boon to nearby residents.

The proposed closure or repurposing of Cataldi Park takes away these benefits and weakens the community ties that have been so diligently built over the years. The community and the future generations deserve to have access to Cataldi Park, a safe, inclusive, and vibrant venue for physical activities and social engagement.

We urge the City Council and relevant authorities to keep Cataldi Park as it is. Implement strategies to preserve the pickleball courts for the benefit of all San Jose residents. Maintain the health benefits, community atmosphere, and local economic support that Cataldi Park provides.

Please sign this petition to show your support for preserving Cataldi Park as an essential part of our community. Let's ensure that future generations can enjoy the same health benefits, community spirit, and economic support that we do today. Let your voice be heard to save this vital community resource.
