SAVE Cardiff Central Club!

The Issue

EDIT: the location listed as CCYC (Cardiff Central Youth Club) is made up of two site. CCYC home of Welsh gymnastics and Cardiff Central Sports and Community Center (CCSCC).

We understand that Cardiff Council will rehome CCYC but not CCSCC. It is CCSCC which current homes the other 20 or so groups and activities that take place on the adjacent sites.

Cardiff Central Youth Club (CCYC) and Cardiff Central Sport and Community Centre (CCSCC) here after 'the club' is an excellent centre, catering for gymnasts, roller derby, netball, No Fit State Circus and many other sports for people of all ages and abilities. It has unrivalled facilities within Cardiff and the surrounding area, including full women’s and men’s apparatus and a floor-level foam pit and a full sized roller derby track. It also brings people and the local community together.

The closure of the club will disproportionately disadvantage women in sport. This is contrary to Welsh Government policy aimed at getting those most likely to be inactive into sport.

The club has enjoyed significant success in the past, having trained gymnasts that have competed in the Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympic Games. It is the home of the Tiger Bay Brawlers one of the top 5 teams in the UK and Top 20 in Europe.

The closure of the club would therefore represent a significant loss to the people of Cardiff.
