Absolutely shocked! This morning a resident observed demolition and removal of heritage items from the Bydown Terraces. To quote the resident:
At 8:50 a.m. today, contractors were observed removing fireplaces, mantlepieces, and other internal fittings from 29 Bydown Street. These works appear to form part of the broader “remediation” program by Aetos Pty Ltd titled Scope of Works and Staging Programmed – 35 Bydown Street, which details the removal and replacement of doors, windows, plasterwork, and fireplace features across multiple properties. This activity is not maintenance; it is demolition of original Federation-era fabric integral to the Bydown Street streetscape.
The Council, Mayor and Councillors have been notified of this. Genuinely shocked the developer would do this. As always, feel free to let Council, Mayor and Councillors know what you think of this. If the developer actually thought there was no heritage value in the site - why are they removing the heritage items?
Thanks for reading.
