Save Burry Port Harbour

The Issue

The condition of Burry Port harbour and our waterfront has steadily deteriorated and is now in the worst condition it has ever been. It has become full of sand and mud, it has become an eyesore, and boats can hardly get in or out. Rats are regularly seen living in the harbour walls.

The harbour needs dredging and tidying up urgently, before it becomes too late to save it.

Carmarthenshire County Council gave a 150 year lease to a private company, requiring it to be dredged and maintained. These are conditions of the lease and have not been carried out effectively by the tenant, and do not appear to have been properly enforced by the County Council.

We need the Council to enforce the conditions of the lease. To try and make this happen we have arranged to put our case to a full Council meeting of all the County Councillors and their senior management in January, and we need your support.

We ask you to sign this petition to call on the County Council to take action to:

1.  Recognise that the condition of Burry Port harbour and waterfront has steadily deteriorated and is now in the worst condition it has ever been.

2.  To take action to have the harbour properly dredged before the summer of 2023.

3.  To take prompt action to restore our harbour and waterfront to a safe, working, attractive area that is a genuine benefit for our whole community and for visitors to our town.

Thank you,

Friends of Burry Port Harbour.
