Save Buljarica: Protect Our Land, Homes, and Heritage

Save Buljarica: Protect Our Land, Homes, and Heritage
The Issue
Buljarica is home to families who have lived and worked on this land for generations. It is a place of olive groves, fields, and shared heritage passed down through time. It is also one of the last wild coasts in Montenegro, with wetlands, seagrass meadows, and migratory birds that make it a unique and vital ecosystem.
Now this place is under threat.
Behind closed doors, powerful investors are preparing to privatize our coastline and turn Buljarica into a gated resort and marina for the elite. At the same time, the government is moving forward with a new Strategic Investment Law that could make this possible by allowing private projects to be declared of “strategic national interest.”
The process has been non-transparent, and local residents the people who have lived here for generations have not been properly informed, consulted, or heard.
We refuse to be silent while our land, our livelihoods, and our memories are treated as commodities.
We call on:
- The Government of Montenegro and the Municipality of Budva to ensure full transparency, public consultation, and respect for community ownership before any project or land decision in Buljarica.
- The Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism to immediately begin the legal process to protect Buljarica as a natural and cultural landscape of national importance.
- The European Union, international media, and the global community to support our call for justice and transparency, and to help stop one of Europe’s last wild coasts from being sold for private profit.
- All relevant institutions in Montenegro, as well as NGOs, civil society organizations, and individuals to join this call and stand with the people of Buljarica in defending public interest, local livelihoods, and the country’s natural heritage.
We demand protection for this place, for the people who belong to it, and for the generations yet to come.
