Save Buffalo State Environmental Geography BS and GIS Certificate

Save Buffalo State Environmental Geography BS and GIS Certificate
The Issue
Geography is a well-established discipline with roots reaching far throughout campus. Our Geography BA program has already been eliminated. Now, the Environmental Geography (EVG) BS, geography minor and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certificate program at Buffalo State University have been slated for deactivation. If this decision moves forward, no new students will be admitted, and those already accepted for the upcoming fall semester will lose the opportunity to attend.
This announcement has devastated current students, alumni, faculty, and local stakeholders who have benefited from this program. For decades, the EVG and associated programs have prepared students to work in private consulting and local, state and federal agencies doing boots on the ground environmental research and education.
This EVG program is the only environmental major on campus. Eliminating this program would not only disrupt the academic and professional paths of current and future students, it would also weaken the pipeline for the next generation of environmental leaders.
We are calling on SUNY and Buffalo State leadership to reconsider this decision and recognize the lasting impact the EVG program has on individuals, local stakeholders, and the greater community and the planet! Please sign this petition to demonstrate the importance and impact of EVG and GIS at Buffalo State University!
