Let me first wish everyone of you a Happy and Healthy New Year.
And to get started with 2022, I just want to update you on the Beachwood Development.
Our local conservation Authority, NVCA, which communicated with the Town of Wasaga Beach and the Developer in such terms: “Based on this review, NVCA staff maintain that the application has not demonstrated consistency with the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) section 2.1.5. In addition, the field program within the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) reported a species Federally and Provincially listed as Special Concern (Common Nighthawk S4B) and a Provincially Imperilled (S2) vegetation type (MAMM4-1),…” also required the developer to provide a revised plan respecting the wetlands “Based on the technical data collected and presented through the EIS, an alternative concept should be explored that does not include removal of the wetland communities from the subject lands.”
In a recent communication NVCA did let us know that the Developer has not yet been providing any new material, therefore the situation is on hold with NVCA.
On another front, as Beachwood Road is owned by the Province and not the town of Wasaga Beach, I communicated via Freedom of Information, with the Town and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario, MTO, to enquire about the permit application for the subdivision entrance on Beachwood Road.
In summary: MTO agreed in principle to the creation of the entrance on Beachwood Road, just in front of the future planned Joan street, as long as they will meet all MTO and Town requirements. However, MTO require the Town of Wasaga Beach to develop a Master Transportation Plan (MTP) for all Beachwood Road to study the impact of all 4 developments proposed on Beachwood Road, (a total of 900 units) as part of the West End Secondary Study and Plan, but they could agree to have each developer include a Traffic Impact, and a join “mini MTP” (no clarification on the detailed content of a mini MTP), to allow the immediate area developers to move forward in their applications ahead of the Town’s secondary plan.
Therefore, we still need to keep fighting this Beachwood Development, and we, Save Brocks Beach, and Save Beachwood, are counting on your permanent support to keep focus and promote this petition as widely as possible. We do have 2180 signatures as of today, reaching 2500 is our goal.
When appropriate time come, I will request a formal deputation to Council to present the petition.
I will keep you posted.
