Bluefield University has made the decision to consider faculty cuts in their budget for next semester. One of the cuts proposed was the decision to remove Rebecca McCoy-Reese as a faculty member in the theatre department. Rebecca McCoy-Reese and her husband Charles Reese have been the professors for the theatre department at Bluefield for 21 years. Over those 21 years they have become, as many other employees of Bluefield University have described it, “the face of the school.” They have put dozens of majors through the program and led a very successful youth theatre program that has inspired countless children, many of whom have chosen to pursue theatre. Local schools have flocked to see performances at Bluefield University as part of Charles and Rebecca’s community outreach and ministry. We as their students, feel we must show our support for all that they've given to us and this university. Their love for their students and their love for their community has shone throughout their 21 years here. Bluefield would not be Bluefield without them. If you care for them, care for theatre, or support arts in schools, please sign this petition to show you support saving Rebecca McCoy Resse’s position.
