Save Blue Haven Kiama

Save Blue Haven Kiama
Why this petition matters
Kiama Municipal Council are proposing to sell Blue Haven Care, its aged care facility and independent living units, without consulting the community or the residents.
Kiama Municipal Council owe a duty of care to the residents of Blue Haven. Those in aged care are particularly vulnerable to abuse, lowered care standards and misrepresentation by those in power over them. We feel that Kiama Municipal Council are doing exactly this - by initially refusing to advise or consult with residents they are engaging in elder abuse. They have already caused extreme distress and trauma to the residents, who have little power in this negotiation and who deserve better treatment and respect at the end of their lives.
If allowed to sell the facility, despite existing contracts and agreements with the residents, this will be a continuation of the decline in aged care provision that was evidenced in the Aged Care Royal Commission.
They must be stopped - this is happening to families and vulnerable people under the cloak of ‘council business’. It is everyone’s business to ensure our elderly citizens are protected from this kind of abuse and deception.
What we need: We need 10,000 signatures to take to Parliament to protest the sale.
Our request:
That the undersigned request that Kiama Council cease all attempts at sale of Blue Haven Care and all associated independent living units and agree with the current residents not to revisit sale options while they are living there.
