In Bloomfield Hills Schools, a decision was made on Feb 23, 2026 by the school board to terminate all infant and toddler childcare programs within the school district effective June 11, 2026. As a result, countless families and educators find themselves grappling with the sudden upheaval of their lives and routines. Families who rely heavily on these services for the care and development of their young ones now face uncertainty and disruption, while many dedicated teachers face unemployment and an uncertain future.

This decision does not only impact those directly involved—it poses a widespread threat to the fabric of our community. Early childhood education is vital, not just for the individual development of children, but also for the growth and prosperity of society at large. Studies have shown that access to quality early education significantly impacts a child's ability to succeed academically and socially throughout their lives. Without it, we are hindering the potential future success of our children, placing them at a disadvantage.

Moreover, local economies benefit from strong early childcare systems. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, every dollar invested in early childhood education brings a $4 to $9 return. This investment pays off in the long run by reducing costs associated with remedial education, welfare, and crime prevention.

Our community deserves sustainable, high-quality early childhood education options that support its members. We urge the Bloomfield Hills School board of education to reconsider their decision and explore alternative options that retain essential services. Funding reallocations, partnerships with local businesses, or phased transition plans can be effective strategies that ensure these vital programs continue for the families that depend on them.

Please support our teachers, families, and most importantly, our children by signing this petition. Let's stand together to advocate for the continuation of early childhood education programs in Bloomfield Hills Schools. Your signature can make a pivotal difference in preserving the quality of education and care our young children so rightly deserve.
