Biscuits to Baskets, a family-owned business, has been a vital part of the local economy and culture in Ajax, Ontario, Canada for over 20 years.

Today, the family-owner business faces a challenge that could jeopardize its operations, thus, their livelihood. 

Due to one complaint in their twenty years of operating the town of Ajax had to investigate. Coincidentally this complaint came forward when Keith Lee, a popular food influencer from the United States of over 16 million followers on TikTok made a visit to Ajax and surprised Biscuits to Baskets shop when he was travelling to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He raved about their products and the positive #KeithLeeEffect occurred. 

Due to this complaint, the bylaw in Ajax requires home based businesses to sell their goods within their home and because their shop was located in their beautifully renovated garage which is not attached to the home, but on their property it is considered a “dwelling”. Due to this, they are forced to shut the dwelling down by June 1st, 2024. 

Town of Ajax it is crucial we all support such enterprises as they contribute so much to Ajax in many ways. Please consider in reviewing your bylaw for small businesses specifically dwellings to the properties and allow Biscuits to Baskets continue their business and livelihood as is.
