To the customers , and to the management of bichoffs

Originally in NYC near the Hippodrome Theater in the late 1800's, Bischoff's is a fourth-generation family ice cream business. They have been in the Teaneck location since 1934. They offer an old-fashioned ice cream soda fountain experience complete with spinning stools at the counter, wait staff wearing paper hats and bow ties, and egg creams! The ice cream and all of the sauces (hot fudge, marshmallow, etc) are made by hand on the premises. They have 40 flavors including ice cream, ice milks, sugar-free ice cream, sherbet and ices. This confectionery store is a place for kids to go after school, for children and others to go after worship or whatever on a Sunday, or whenever, to truly enjoy that sweet, sweet taste. They even have hamburgers and other items to whet your appetite.

But now, this confectionery legend, is on the verge of closing down. By the end of this December, here is more of what is going on, it is based on the letter that was published in the social media:

“We were betrayed by a couple of staff members who stated telling the story and then by a silly news outlet that grabbed a very half-keistered rumor and ran with it. This caused us some pain as we were unable to tell our story in our time, and some very important people had to read it on Facebook, which was not fair. 

The immediate and intense outpouring of love and support had been amazing, powerful, and heartbreaking. Regular customers in tears with Steven, former employees coming in a reminiscing with him, (one even jumped in to help the overwhelmed staff last night!) and phone calls from all over the country. 

This is, and always has been, a family business. The family who runs it, and the family of customers. December will feel like a month-long wake as we say goodbye. My husband and my mother-in-law will be exhausted and sad. Please lift them with love and support, and help them through this very challenging time in their lives.

this confectionery, sweet shop isn’t just a place, it’s a way of life not just for Teaneck, New Jersey but for all of Bergen County and it helps us see the beauty of mom and pop shops everywhere! For generations, people have been coming here, not just for ice cream, but hamburgers and cheeseburgers, and a whole lot more and yes, even the sweet chocolate. We feel that by closing it would be a tragedy not just for Teaneck, but for all of Bergen County, period!

We, the patrons of the many mom-and-pop shops, including those who hit our sweet spot with a sweet tooth, hereby call upon those to save this confectionery institution from the bottom of our hearts, and to please keep this important piece of TeenNick history and Bergen County history open for many generations to come so they can taste many of the great things that the shop still offers, including the hot fudge, sundaes, and the banana splits! This is a place that should not close down, this must be a light in a time of change.
