The Issue

For the last 13 years, Miami-Dade County's BIKE305  has been the only Public Safety Initiative in South Florida that promotes safe-cycling through programs like FREE bicycle helmet giveaways,  FREE Learn How to Ride a Bike classes, FREE Introduction to Mountain Biking classes and community bike rides where families can enjoy an outdoor activity fully escorted on safe routes in their neighborhood.

BIKE305 is scheduled to be shut down on October 1st due to County budget cuts unless you sign this petition and demand that this valuable Public Safety initiative and its Manager, Sue Kawalerski, be fully funded and restored as a community service.  

Bike305 serves all levels of cyclists from beginners to experts and everyone in-between.   This is your only source to keep you safe on you bike in Miami-Dade County.

“Thank you for contacting the Office of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava regarding the Bike305 program. Bicycle safety remains a priority for the Mayor and the administration and will continue to be addressed by Miami-Dade County. The Mayor is committed to ensuring residents can get outdoors and safely enjoy our community’s robust biking network and enhanced trails. She is working to expand bicycle-friendly infrastructure and reduce traffic injuries and fatalities through our Vision Zero program. The Bike305 Program will continue to maintain its online presence and continue providing valuable resources for residents and visitors who cycle in our community. Additionally, roadway safety is addressed through the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works’ (DTPW) Transportation Planning Unit, and enforcement is carried out by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office along with surrounding city police departments, as has been the practice in the past. To further enhance bicycle safety in PROS leadership is working with DTPW to identify existing internal resources and programs that currently address bike safety. We are also connecting with external partners such as the Underline on existing outreach, education, and safety initiatives for cyclists across the County. Thank you for your email and your advocacy.
