Big Mother is a very popular art piece at the AGSA and she has recently been under threat for being removed because she is too “inappropriate” for young people. Like most artworks, at the Art Gallery she reveals herself, naked, breastfeeding a child. Big Mother was created by Patricia Piccinini. Big Mother is a story of a female baboon whose baby had died while still being breastfed. Not only having a powerful moving story, Big Mother is a deeply loved artwork throughout all of Adelaide. She is quite a sight to see and so many people will be heartbroken if she is removed. Big Mother is a staple art piece for the Gallery.

Another loved art piece Buck, is under threat of being removed too. Buck is a very loved piece and has some deep meanings along with it. Buck represents a trans man and is based on a true story. Many people in the trans community deeply appreciate having an art piece like Buck because it helps them see more trans representation and feel safer amongst the community. This is another reason we need art pieces like this; it's not just about the art, it’s about the connections made along with them, it’s about how they represent different things and how they can help people feel more comfortable in their skin.

So many people have simple connections and many memories of art pieces like this, so wanting to remove them just because of nudity is OUTRAGEOUS! More and more art pieces are going to be put under threat because of this, so if you have an art piece that you absolutely love and it shows some nudity or something inappropriate please sign this because it will not only help save Big Mother and Buck but in the future help save any other pieces like it.
