For twenty five years "Big" John Harrison has entertained South Yorkshire at breakfast. In a few weeks the current owners of Hits Radio South Yorkshire are cancelling the show in favour of a national one broadcast from Manchester or London by presenters who do not know the area.

For a quarter of a century this much loved radio presenter and his team have been sending people to work or school with a smile, cheering people up, picking them up, being that friendly familiar local voice that can keep you going through difficult times. John started his show when I was in my penultimate year in school. I am 40 this year. I along with many have grown up listening to John. His show is a local institution which pulls in more listeners than Radio 1, Radio 2 and Capital breakfasts. Local radio connects and entertains us in a way national radio cannot. John's show is the only one on local FM commercial radio.
