Thank you to everyone who signed and supported the Bewley Building petition. We showed that when the people of Lockport come together, we can hold leaders accountable. But this is only the beginning.
We already have signs of progress in our city—the restored Post Office with Big Ditch, our ice arena, theater, restaurants, wineries, our farmers market and gazebo area downtown and a growing tourist center. Lockport has a rich history and legacy: Lockport Glassworks, Ford Gum, the fire hydrant, volleyball, the Erie Canal, and even small museums at the Locks. These are assets we can build on.
Now it’s time to stop the cycle of winter hibernation and demand real action—not more empty promises. With 20,000 people in our city, and 7,000 members already in Lockport Local, plus several other active community groups, we have a strong voice. We need to use it.
👉 Here’s the plan:
Show up – Attend Common Council meetings. (Common Council | Lockport, NY)
Speak out – Hold leaders accountable and keep low-income housing projects out of downtown. Our city center must be focused on creating living-wage jobs, growing tourism, and building economic opportunities—not concentrated poverty.
Stay engaged – On November 4th, vote for what you believe in.
Connect – After each Common Council meeting, let’s host an informal “after party” to discuss next steps, strategies, and how we as residents can keep influencing positive change.
This is our city. Together, we can build a Lockport where people truly want to live, work, and play.
