Subject: URGENT ACTION REQUIRED TO RESTORE ROADS, DRAINAGE, CLEANLINESS AND BASIC CIVIC INFRASTRUCTURE IN EAST BENGALURU
Respected Sir/Madam,
I am writing this appeal as a concerned citizen and a strong supporter of the Congress ideology, with genuine disappointment but also great hope that our Government will act decisively.
Bengaluru is one of India’s greatest cities. It is our technology capital, an economic powerhouse and a truly cosmopolitan city that welcomes people from every part of India and the world.
But the Bengaluru we are experiencing today is losing its charm and, more importantly, its liveability.
The condition of roads, storm-water drains, nalas, garbage management, sanitation and basic civic infrastructure has become extremely distressing. In many parts of East Bengaluru, citizens are forced to live with broken roads, potholes, dust, foul-smelling drains, overflowing waste and severe traffic congestion on a daily basis.
The situation is particularly concerning across:
Mahadevapura • Whitefield • Varthur • Gunjur • Sarjapur • Dommasandra • KR Puram • Budigere Cross • Hoskote and surrounding areas.
Several roads and stretches have remained damaged or inadequately maintained for years. Citizens cannot understand why basic road restoration and drainage works should take so long.
WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR FAVOURS. WE ARE ASKING FOR BASIC CIVIC SERVICES.
We request the Government to treat this as an urgent civic emergency and initiate a time-bound East Bengaluru Road & Civic Infrastructure Mission, with:
1. IMMEDIATE ROAD REPAIR
Identify the worst roads and pothole stretches and repair/reconstruct them on an emergency basis.
2. FIX THE NALAS & STORM-WATER DRAINS
Desilt, clean and scientifically maintain drains, eliminate foul odour and prevent sewage and waste from entering storm-water systems.
3. CLEAN BENGALURU
Strengthen garbage collection, segregation, disposal and street-cleaning systems, particularly in rapidly growing residential areas.
4. ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ROAD WORKS
Every major road project should have a publicly visible contractor, responsible agency, commencement date, completion date and quality-accountability mechanism.
5. STOP THE “DIG–REPAIR–DIG AGAIN” CULTURE
Coordinate road, water, sewage, electricity, telecom and other utility works so that newly repaired roads are not repeatedly destroyed.
6. PUBLICLY TRACK PROGRESS
Citizens should be able to see which roads are sanctioned, which are under execution and when each project will be completed.
OUR APPEAL IS SIMPLE: PLEASE ACT NOW.
Bengaluru cannot become a global city merely through ambitious mega-projects. A global city begins with good roads, clean neighbourhoods, functioning drainage, safe streets, reliable basic services and respect for the time and dignity of its citizens.
I say this as someone who supports the Congress Government:
Please don’t take the citizens of Bengaluru for granted.
We want this Government to succeed. We want to see Bengaluru prosper. We want to proudly say that our elected representatives listened to the people and transformed the city.
Please rebuild East Bengaluru.
Please clean Bengaluru.
Please fix our drains.
Please restore our roads.
Please restore our confidence.
We respectfully request the Hon’ble Chief Minister, senior leadership, the Mahadevapura MLA and all concerned authorities to personally review the situation and initiate visible, measurable and time-bound action.
The citizens of Bengaluru are patient.
But our patience should not be mistaken for acceptance.
Bengaluru deserves better.
East Bengaluru deserves better.
And our citizens deserve better.
WE REQUEST ACTION — NOT ANOTHER ASSURANCE.
With sincere hope and respect,
A Concerned Citizen of Bengaluru
East Bengaluru / Mahadevapura
“Let us rebuild the Bengaluru we once loved — and create an even better Bengaluru for the next generation.” 🙏
