Why this petition matters

Started by Sarah Dyer

Without consultation with audiences, the BBC is scrapping two local news programmes: BBC Look East (West) which covers Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire and BBC Oxford, which covers a large region to the West of this, including Oxfordshire.

From the autumn 2022, people in these regions will receive evening new programmes from Norwich or Southampton respectively, places miles away from the main centres of the regions losing their local news.

Cities like Oxford and Milton Keynes will no longer have a local BBC news team to report on important civic and other significant events. Viewers will no longer see their local area’s news represented - rather they will be served irrelevant news from places miles away, simply because the BBC thought they could slip this change through without consultation and  without warning.

This petition is for people who object to losing their local regional news programme, who don’t want to consume evening news from a region miles away. Please sign it to object to the BBC’s decision and send the message that they should keep these programmes, that they are valued and necessary, and the decision to axe them should be reversed with immediate effect.
