The Issue

Axolotls are very elegant and important creatures, as they have been used for scientific research for over 200 years. They have an unbelievable ability to regrow damaged or lost tissues, including whole limbs, organs, and parts of their central nervous system. They are extremely important creatures to science today. If things in Lake Xochimilco (along with the waterways and canals of Mexico City, their only natural habitats) remain unchanged, the small population of these unremarkable creatures will soon disappear. They are dying out because

  1. Human development
  2. Disposal of waste water
  3. Habitat loss due to droughts

We must act immediately to save this astonishing species and let it thrive in its natural habitat. So, do every axolotl lover a favor, sign the petition, and let many generations forward enjoy this amazing animal.
