The Lapeer School Board is trying to discontinue the American Sign Language program for following years (starting in the 2017-2018 school year). We have very recently been told that ASL student will be "Grandfathered" into another language. A multitude of people take ASL because they want to challenge themselves. Some students take this course because they have relatives or friends who use ASL. The Spanish and French courses are mainly taken by those who only want to get the credits out of the way, I am not saying in anyway shape or form students who are taking French or Spanish don't enjoy these courses as much a we enjoy ASL. But these languages are very common and ordinary; most elementary students have already studied one of the two cultures. ASL has such a unique and beautiful culture but most people don't know about it. In ASL class we don't just learn how to sign we learn about the culture. Please help save ASL.
