As constituents of Lee County we respectfully request your assistance in addressing the severe overgrowth of vegetation at Ashwood Lake. What was once a cherished community resource has deteriorated significantly, and we believe targeted state support could help restore it for the benefit of families across your district. For many years, Ashwood Lake served as a gathering place for local families. Parents brought their children to fish, swim, and picnic. Neighbors organized weekend cookouts, church groups held outdoor events, and generations of Lee County residents created lasting memories along its shores. It was an affordable, accessible place where people of all ages could enjoy the outdoors together. Unfortunately, due to a lack of management, excessive vegetation has now choked large portions of the lake and its shoreline. Dense aquatic weeds and overgrown banks have made the lake unusable for recreation and fishing, and has left the surrounding area looking neglected. What was once a source of community pride has become an eyesore and a lost opportunity.

Clearing the excessive vegetation and making improvements to the surrounding grounds would deliver meaningful benefits to citizens throughout your district. Families would once again have a safe, welcoming place for outdoor recreation close to home, reducing the need to travel outside the county for similar activities. Local youth and seniors would gain access to fishing, walking, and quiet outdoor time; activities that support physical and mental health. Small community gatherings, church outings, and informal family events could return, strengthening social ties in Lee County and neighboring areas. Updated facilities and landscaping such as improved picnic areas, basic restrooms, walking paths, and shoreline plantings would create a more inviting public space while helping prevent future overgrowth. A restored Ashwood Lake could also support local economic activity through increased day-use visitation and related spending at nearby businesses. We respectfully ask that you explore available state funding opportunities, whether through the annual budget process, environmental or recreation-related appropriations, or other appropriate channels, to support vegetation management at Ashwood Lake and complementary improvements to the surrounding facilities and landscaping.
