Save Armadale swimming pool
The Issue
Petition to Save Armadale Swimming Pool
We, the residents of Armadale, Blackridge and Westfield, call on West Lothian Council to halt any plans to sell, lease, or demolish the former Armadale Swimming Pool building and to work with the community to secure its reopening or transfer for community use. The swimming pool was a vital community asset serving generations of families across our towns and villages. It provided:
Essential swimming lessons for children
A safe space for young people,
Affordable exercise for adults and older residents,
Rehabilitation and low-impact fitness opportunities,
Local employment
A hub for community wellbeing.
The loss of the pool has had a significant impact on our community. Many residents now face travel barriers, increased costs, and reduced access to physical activity. This particularly affects children, older adults, carers, and those on low incomes.
We believe:
The building is a valuable community asset that should not be disposed of without exhausting all options for retention.
Full transparency is required regarding the Common Good implications and financial position.
The community must be meaningfully involved in shaping the future of the site.
Options such as community asset transfer, partnership funding, phased reopening, or alternative community leisure use must be fully explored before any sale or demolition.
We therefore demand that West Lothian Council:
Suspend any sale or demolition process
Publish full financial and Common Good details relating to the site
Engage in open dialogue with residents
Work collaboratively to find a sustainable solution that keeps this asset in community hands
This pool belongs to the people. Its future should reflect the will and wellbeing of the community
